Volunteer Commitment Policy
The Cochrane Piranhas Swim Club is powered by families. Every meet and event depends on volunteers stepping forward. To keep meets running smoothly and fairly across all families, the club uses a points-based volunteer system.
How the Volunteer System Works
Each family is required to earn 15 volunteer points per season.
Points must be earned across three categories:
- Home Meet 6
- Away Meet 6
- Club Events 3
You must volunteer in all three categories. Participating in each volunteering category promotes fairness, shared responsibility, and strong support for all club activities.
What Counts as Points
Volunteer roles are assigned different point values based on:
- The time commitment
- The level of responsibility
- Whether training or certification is required
Higher-commitment and higher-responsibility roles earn more points. A complete list of roles and point values will be posted each season. We encourage all parents to upgrade their credentials every season.
Deadlines & Eligibility
- Volunteer points must be completed by the end of the regular swim season and before Regionals.
- Families of swimmers attending Regionals and/or Provincials must volunteer, regardless of regular-season points, as these meets rely on full team participation.
Tracking Your Points
All volunteer shifts and points are tracked in SwimTopia. Families can log in at any time to:
- View assigned shifts
- Check completed points
- See what requirements are still outstanding
Volunteer Bond
A $300 volunteer bond is due at registration night (either post-dated cheque or e-transfer. If your family does not complete the required 15 points, your bond will be partially or fully retained based on how many points are missing:
- Each uncompleted point = $20
- The club will keep $20 for every point you are short
Example: If your family finishes the season 3 points short, $60 will be retained from your bond, with any remaining balance will be refunded after the season ends.
