Preliminary ASG Rankings ... don't forget to register before June 11th!!

Hello Black Tail, Orange Tail and Silverback families,

I received an update from Swim AB with the current athletes registered to be considered for Alberta Summer Games selection.  Kevin Dennis has created a preliminary list of rankings (Summer Games Top 200 ... zone 2 athletes are listed as BROWN) and the list of selected athletes if the selection were done today (2023 ASG DRAFT Rankings).

If you look at the Summer Games Top 200 spreadsheet and select the appropriate tab (separated by year of birth and M/F gender) you can see the times that are currently needed to be in the top 3 for each of the 4 100m events.

The current times listed for ASSA swimmers are from last season because there haven't been any ASSA meets yet this season.  Please know that anything can happen and these "top times" are not guaranteed to be the top times on the selection day as all swimmers have the opportunity to update times until June 11th 2023.

Don't forget to REGISTER if you haven't already done so ... the June 11th registration deadline is a hard deadline and if you miss it then your swimmer will not be eligible for consideration to make the zone 2 team.

Good luck to everyone hoping to be selected!!

Coach Amy

Subject: 2023 Alberta Summer Games - Selection Criteria and DRAFT Rankings

Coaches,

Attached are DRAFT ONLY rankings for the 2023 Alberta Summer Games. The intention of sharing these is for parents, coaches and athletes to get a better sense of the new selection process prior to the official selection in June. These draft rankings can be used by clubs to gain a better sense of which swimmers may be in contention for a spot in their zone or could be selected as an alternate.

Important note regarding the draft rankings:

  1. Swimmers that have qualified for Canadian Swimming Championships as of June 13, are ineligible for the 2023 Alberta Summer Games. The draft rankings do not remove any swimmers that have qualified for Canadian Swimming Championships. Therefore, certain swimmers listed on the draft rankings are ineligible for participation in the 2023 Alberta Summer Games.
  2. Swimmers declaring for the 2023 Summer Games must choose to apply for the zone of their main training pool, or the zone of which they reside. Because we currently do not have all participants’ zone application information, the draft rankings are based on the address of the club that each swimmer registered with. For example, a swimmer that trains primarily in zone 6, but lives in zone 5, must choose which zone to apply for.
  3. Because these are draft rankings, any ties for alternate positions have been left alone. If there was a tie for third spot, the correct swimmer is selected based on the 2023 Alberta Summer Games: Selection Criteria.
  4. Category 5 swimmers have not been included in the draft rankings, because there is a different selection process that requires more information about participation that can only be received upon the registration deadline.

The draft rankings that are included show each swimmer receiving points in the short course 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke or 100 Butterfly.

Also included is the top 200 ranking from the entire province, that was used for draft rankings. Swimmers have been colour coded, based on their club address, which was done to provide a depth chart for each zone. Please remember these colours do not reflect the selected zones for the participant.

We wish all prospective Alberta Summer Games swimmers the best of luck in the upcoming official selection process.

REMINDER – All swimmers MUST complete the Games Participant Registration for the sport of swimming and identify their zone in order to be considered for selection.
