Hello swim families,

The Alberta Summer Games are back this year after a 4 year break and I am excited to share information with you about the selection and registration process.

Swimmers born in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 are eligible to try out for the team.  Each zone will select 3 male and 3 female swimmers from each year of birth (24 total athletes).  In previous years the selection would happen at a zone trials swim meet but this year Swim Alberta has decided to make the selection based on times achieved at a sanctioned meet between July 1st 2022 and June 11th 2023. 

In order to be considered for selection, you must register your child and declare their zone.  Anyone who swims for the Piranhas can declare as zone 2.  If you don't live in the zone 2 area, you can also choose to declare for the zone where you live rather than the zone where you compete (for example if you live in Calgary you can declare as zone 3 if you want instead of zone 2).

Once the June 11th deadline passes, Swim AB will create a report of swim times for all the swimmers that registered to compete in the summer games and they will choose the 3 swimmers for each gender and year of birth based on those times.  If you don't register by June 11th you will not be eligible for team selection.  There is no cost to register - fees are due after the team is named.  They are typically fairly reasonable and include transportation to/from the games, team gear (hoodie and cap), meals,  accommodations and entry into the competition.

We have previously had Piranhas attend the games and all have said how much fun it was.  At the last games, Duncan Swedlo was the head coach for zone 3 and was proud to bring home the zone championship for swimming.
