Many updates - Swim Mania on Tuesday, Deadline for Tritons meet, Update on ribbons/medals, and more broken records!

Hello again everyone,

I have a lot of updates; so please have a thorough read through this email (it is also posted on the "news" section of our swimtopia website).

Swim Mania Tuesday June 28th 6 to 7 pm - Don't forget we are doing a team picture first at 5:55 and then swimming from 6-7.  We currently have 31 swimmers attending so all group 1 swimmers can start at 6 and swim until 6:30. If you have a conflict and would prefer to have your group 1 swimmer swim from 6:30-7, please let Bryson know ([email protected]) (PLEASE don't just reply to this email as it will go to me instead of Bryson).

RSVP Deadline for Tritons meet is also Tuesday June 28th (at 8 pm) -  we need to submit our entries by July 1st and need time to build relay teams and decide on entries.  If your swimmer is attending, please talk to them about what events they would like to enter.  As a rough rule of thumb, we try to ensure that each swimmer is in at least 2 new events (haven't done them yet this season, or perhaps a completely new event) and then let them choose 2 events.  Since we can only swim 4 events at a meet its important to have some variety in the entries.  We use swimmer best times to help build relays; so its really important that we get times for everyone!! For swimmers that are 8 and under there are entry restrictions for certain events ... they cannot enter a 50m event until they have a time of 40 seconds or faster in the corresponding 25 event (e.g. 40 second 25 free = can enter 50 free).  They also cannot enter the 100 IM until they have a time in all 4 strokes as individual races. For older swimmers, a time of 4:00 or faster is needed in the 200 Free in order to enter the 400 Free, and a time of 7:00 or faster is needed in the 400 Free in order to enter both the 800 Free and the 1500 Free.

For the most experienced swimmers, it is encouraged to swim both the 800 and 1500 this season at least once, but I understand distance is not for everyone, and will accept just one or the other as a goal for one of the meets this season.

Ribbons/Medals update - at each meet swimmers earn ribbons for the top "x" in each event (usually it is the number of lanes in the pool; so top 5 for Didsbury and top 6 for Okotoks and High River.  The remaining meets will award ribbons to the top 8 in each event).  There is also something called the "high points" award which is awarded in each age category/gender for the top scoring swimmers overall.  These are awarded as Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

We received the ribbons from Okotoks but they are still working on their High Point medals.  Didsbury has not handed out either ribbons or medals.  Both clubs have said they anticipate that they will have them ready to hand out at the Tritons meet.  The High River club has indicated that their ribbon/medal supplier went out of business and they are still trying to track down supplies; so they might not have theirs ready to hand out at the Tirtons meet.

Thanks to Meadow and Madison's mom Tracey for handing out the ribbons in High River yesterday.  Anyone who didn't get their ribbons yet, please ask your coach as we have them to hand out at upcoming practices.

Club Records and Provincial Records

Finally I am excited to report that our club set 5 individual records (2 of which were also ASSA Provincial records!) and 1 relay record in High River.

Girls 6&u 50 Back - Meadow MacPherson in 1:04.46

Boys 11-12 - Aaron Xiao beat his own club record in 50 Back (31.60) and 50 Fly (29.81) as well as two new records in the 100 Back (1:07.94) and 100 IM (1:10.91). Of note is that the previous 100 IM record was set back in 1983 and has stood for 39 years!!

On top of the club records that Aaron set, he also set the ASSA provincial record in both the 50 and 100 Back. Amazing!

Boys 14 & U Medley Relay - Congratulations to Aaron X, Tony K, Ollie F and Eli F for a new club record time of 2:12.90

The club records are posted on our bulletin board as well as available on our website at the bottom of our "team information" tab.

Thank you for your attention going over all of this news.  The coaching staff is really enjoying the privilege of coaching all of your amazing swimmers.

Thank you!!
Amy, Bryson, Eli and Max
